Review - Terminator:Salvation

Terminator: Salvation is the fourth movie in the Terminator series which began in 1984. Whereas the previous three films take place during the life of Sarah Connor and the early life of her son John (now played by Christian Bale), Salvation takes place in 2018 after Skynet's nuclear strike that wipes out most of humanity (refered to by humans as "Judgement Day"...the title of the second movie). This movie takes place 11 years before John sends his father Kyle Reese back to 1984 to protect his mother Sarah (the subject of the first movie).

The story of Salvation centers around John trying to secure and protect Kyle who is being targeted by Skynet in order to prevent John's existence (one of the reasons for the title "Salvation"). The new movie is consistent with the mythology of the first three movies. It draws on one of the major themes of Judgement Day. The theme of what separates man from machine. It is highly recommended that you watch (or re-watch) Judgement Day. Salvation retains characters from the earlier movies and also introduces a new important character named Marcus Wright. Is he man or machine? A question that may be open for debate.

Terminator: Salvation is very well made movie full of action and some twists. It may be a little lacking in good dialogue but that's typical of most war films. There's not a whole of time to say anything. I liked the performances of Christian Bale and newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard. I'm sure they'll be critics out there attacking Bale because that's become the fashionable thing to do, but he did well. And you don't mess with the Batman. I can easily see a need for about two more movies in order to cover everything. That would be a total of six...three before "Judgement Day" and three after.

You need to go see this movie but as mentioned earlier, you should see T2: Judgement Day in case you haven't seen it in a while.

Terminator: Salvation...GO NOW!
