Review - State Of Play

State of Play is the story of a reporter Cal McAffrey (played by Russell Crowe) and his investigation into a murder of a young woman linked to his old friend Congressman Stephen Collins (played by Ben Affleck). This film is made in the tradition of espionage films of the 1940s - 1950s.

Despite a couple of cheesy moments the acting was very good. The movie involved alot of characters and they all performed very well. However, the problem for me was the story itself. The story is constantly developing at a rapid pace. Before the half way point of the movie I was pretty much lost. I didn't know who was doing what and what everyone's name was. Most of the plot development involves hearing a person's name pop up somewhere and it's really hard to understand what just happened if you couldn't remember who that person was. Giving that fact it's pretty difficult to write too much about this movie.

This may turn out to be one of those movies that get better with time after seeing it multiple times on FX. That's pretty much all I can say at this time. Perhaps I'll see again at the dollar movie theatre.

State Of Play - FX It.
